Preparing a delicious turmeric paste for Golden Milk with additional spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cracked black pepper adds to the healing properties of this soothing bedtime drink. Just add the milk of your choice and cozy up with a mugful before bedtime. Add a couple of homemade marshmallows to sweeten the deal. Kids will love it too!
Healthy, Cozy Comfort
My family has been enJOYing a cozy cup of Golden Milk for years. Especially during the cool fall and winter months. Not only is this mugful of golden goodness healing for the body but healing for the soul as well. With the warming spices, a touch of sweetness from the honey, or even jaggery (traditional Indian sweetener that tastes somewhat like brown sugar…only better), and the buttery goodness from the Grassfed ghee, it reminds me of days gone by when grandma would make me a cup of warm milk and send me off to bed. Undoubtedly, Golden Milk is like a healing hug before bedtime.
Preparing the Turmeric Paste
Preparing the Golden Milk paste is easy peasy. Just add 1/4 cup of dried turmeric, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, and 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper into a small pot along with 1/4 cup of filtered water. Stir on medium to medium-low heat for about five minutes until the water has mostly evaporated and a thick paste forms (like toothpaste). Finally, store it in the refrigerator for a few months in a sealed jar.
Preparing the Golden Milk
To serve, add 1 tsp Golden Milk paste to 8 oz of warmed milk of your choice. Add 1 tsp honey or jaggery and 1 tsp ghee or MCT oil. Stir to combine and top with Homemade Marshmallows to sweeten the deal. Finally, serve one hour before bedtime to wind down. EnJOY!

Supporting Properties of the Herbs & Spices
- Turmeric has the remarkable ability to improve memory, joint mobility, heart health, reduce swelling, improve digestion, and build the immune system.
- Black Pepper combined with turmeric increases potency and enhances absorption. Piperine, a compound found in black pepper, increases the bioavailability of curcumin in turmeric by 2000%. Translated…these two go together like peanut butter and jelly.
- Ginger, with its warming properties, also aids in building immunity and is great for digestion.
- Cinnamon is prized for its nourishing benefits and warming flavor and is rich in antioxidants.
Why Not Try Some Homemade Marshmallows in Your Golden Milk?
The other night I plopped a few homemade marshmallows into our mugs of golden milk. Undoubtedly, I got a few funny looks. But why not? Clearly, I am not talking about your store-bought varieties…even the “organic” ones. No, these marshmallows taste amazing and are healthy for you. Plus, they are so fun to make.
I have been including them in my morning ritual in my adaptogen coffee because of the rich source of gelatin and marshmallow root. They add just the perfect amount of maple syrupy sweetness to my coffee. Marshmallow root is wonderful for the respiratory system, helping to reduce swellin with its mucilaginous properties that form a protective layer that coats the digestive tract. Gelatin supports healthy digestion and is loaded with proteins and antioxidants which help protect the cells in our body. Additionally, gelatin is a good source of calcium and magnesium and is great for bone, skin, and joint support.
Cozy Bedtime Comfort
Golden milk is a wonderful way to calm the body down before bedtime. Ultimately, with all the soothing and warming herbs that nourish the body, it is good to prepare the body for rest and help it in the recovery phase while you sleep. Additionally, golden milk not only tastes delicious but is a great way to settle little ones down as part of an evening wind-down ritual. Undoubtedly, it is great for moms and dads too!
