A Murder Mystery party is the perfect way to bring together a group of friends for a night of fun, delicious food, mystery, laughter, and of courseā¦dress ups. Make this an annual tradition friends will be anticipating all year long.
Choosing a Theme & Setting the Stage
Every year, we celebrate my husband’s birthday by hosting a Murder Mystery Party. We love a good mystery, and we happen to have fun friends who really like to get into their parts. This particular party was our favorite yet. Murder in the Roaring 20s was a smash hit and fun to dress up. We just searched on Amazon for a murder mystery kit that could host our number of friends. We liked the theme and couldn’t wait to shop for costumes. My good friend Nancy Plummer set this stage up. I asked her to host the party at her house, and she got bitten by the creative bug. The Roaring 20s is a fun theme to work with. We have also enjoyed Murder on a Train and A Taste of Wine and Murder.
The Costumes
The Food
The party boxes you choose come with a suggested menu, usually related to the theme. You can do a fancy, several-course sit-down meal, or you can go as simple as having everyone bring an hors d’oeuvre to share. The fancier the food, the longer the evening. We took a dinner break and enjoyed discussing the clues we had gathered to that point. It also allowed the host to prepare and not miss a beat.
Roll Playing
It is really hard not to get into your role when you are surrounded by people decked to the nines in character. You have scripts to read, and everyone does their best to stay in character.
Who Done It?
Shout out to Nancy Plummer for the most fantastic stage. It was a birthday memory to treasure for a lifetime and hard to beat. Thanks, Nans, my very gifted, sweet friend.
