Aligning Myself to My Future Self
I’ve been thinking of you this week as I have finally completed my blogging course and am two weeks away from finishing up my intermediate herbal course. The next step is learning how to incorporate video for all my visual learners…myself included.
This blogging journey is a process of learning, tweaking, listening, and pivoting when needed. Actually, to tell you the truth, I have loved this process of discovering there is more that I am capable of as I keep saying yes to God and investing in myself, even when I feel scared, tired, or even a bit overwhelmed with it all.
I keep growing, learning, discovering, and aligning myself with my future self.
Future self is a concept I believe you have heard me say often. This idea I gleaned from Psalm 139:16, “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” If there is a book written with all of my days, I want to align my life with it so that I don’t miss a thing God has for me.
In my quiet times, God has been teaching me about the word alignment. Laurie E. Smith says, “I believe we each have the opportunity to undergo thousands of little deaths and rebirths every day. Each time we do, we free up space to live more fully in tune with who we are, and to go where we are being called to go.” I live by the concept of taking daily action to eliminate anything that doesn’t serve my mind, body, and spirit.
Get Clear About Whose Story You are Living
Interestingly, I have been getting clear about what is my story and what are the stories others have projected onto me; whether it be painful words spoken over me by a broken person (we all are broken), or generational patterns such as extreme frugality and a poverty spirit that are not my reality but were a reality for my grandparent’s during the Great Depression. Those stories get passed down and until we ask “Whose story is this?” we may unconsciously be playing out someone else’s narrative in our lives. I want to untangle my root system and get clear about my place in this world.
Unfortunately, we also have an enemy who wants to thwart our destinies and get us to forfeit our inheritance in Christ. If he can get us to settle for less or believe lies about God’s beautiful nature, then he can severely limit our destinies. This is why it is so important to meet with God and talk with Him. Listen to His heart, believe what He says, and obey His direction. We are in a covenant with God and those in covenant understand that when life gets chaotic we don’t have to run around like an orphan trying to get our needs met. We don’t need to wonder what to do. Because of our covenant with a perfect Father, Savior, Redeemer, and King, we only have to ask, “What did God say?” We can rest on what He says because He always does what He says He will do.
What does this have to do with a future self? Everything. When you know what is written in your books in heaven, you have a truth to enforce when the enemy comes with his lies. Even Jesus modeled this for us when He was in the wilderness by declaring to the enemy, “It is written” every time the enemy tempted him with a lie. He enforced what God had said and that was how he modeled victory from rest. And because we can trust our covenant-keeping God, we too can live a life from rest and victory, not striving for it.
